Nothing New - Dolce far Niente

This phrase sounds so pretty in Italian: /ˈdol.t͡ʃe ˈfar ˈnjɛn.te/
Ahhh…the sweetness of doing nothing! The sweetness of stillness!
Stillness is a vital component of my coaching. Until we learn to be still, we can’t hear our true inner wisdom.
We can’t hear God, the universe, or creator (whatever name you are comfortable with) through the cacophony of inputs we receive: past teachings that served us well but need to be let go of as we mature and become wise and the ever-present blare of media. Constant noise from varied sources tells us what to do and how to feel, look, and act.
There is no need to constantly be striving and doing. There is pure joy in idling.
It can be difficult to shift from what culture has taught us; it’s ingrained in our mindset. Having a growth mindset, a mindset that is open, curious, and asks questions, can help you learn to get still. To just be. Try this freebie to get some practical ways to nurture stillness. Perhaps sit and zone out in your favorite chair or on your patio. Go to a body of water and let the rhythmic sound of the waves lull you. Start small. Set a timer for five minutes so you can relax into the quietude. Try different times of the day. Gradually increase the length of time and frequency of your tranquil times.
As you do this, you’ll begin to notice a shift. A little bit of freedom from letting outside forces control you. A bit of room to breathe easier. A feeling of settling. A sense of peace and contentment.
Stillness is the best action we can take to bring peace into our lives.
